晚明時期,社會上出現了“崇雅”風尚。不僅士大夫階層以風雅相尚,在日常生活中和著書立說時强調和推崇“雅”的概念;富商巨賈、達官顯貴也競相表達對“雅”的追逐,收藏雅物、雅器的行爲比比皆是。此現象的出現,主要是由於晚明商業的極度繁榮和物質財富的大量積累,導致原有社會秩序的瓦解和新的商品社會關係的建立。在這個過程中,士人階層地位下降且愈加貧窮,處沒落邊緣;而財富擁有者們在具備經濟實力後,對本群體在文化領域和政治領域的話語權展開了爭奪。爲緩解地位下降的失落和身份界限模糊的焦慮,文人士大夫們便試圖通過對“雅”概念的重塑,建構起與衆不同的自我大衆形象,將自己與社會上隨處可見的所謂“鑒賞家”和“收藏者”等劃清界限,爲自己的文化地位扳回一城。崇“雅”的社會風尚表現在晚明的鑒賞文獻中,便是“雅”出現的頻率很高,成爲精英文人常用的批評話語和審美標準。值得注意的是,對“雅”和“俗”的强調並不侷限於精英文人群體,普通的士大夫知識分子亦積極使用“雅”和“俗”的概念,來進行階級身份的拔高和自我標榜。因主體身份相近,普通文人對“雅”的態度與精英文人有相似之處,但不同的生活背景或言論心態,使這些主體身份相近却不盡相同的文人們在對某物做具體評價時,與精英文人有差异或矛盾。李漁便是其中之一。本次報告將透過李漁對“雅”的態度和精英文人們對“雅”的態度之對比,來探討李漁的審美獨特性。
In the late Ming period, there emerged a trend of elegance-worshipping. Not only did the scholarly class embrace this practice, perpetuating this concept in both their daily life and in their writings, but wealthy merchants and officials also pursued “elegance” actively in their devotion to elegant objects. The chief reason for this phenomenon is great commercial prosperity and the accumulation of material wealth, along with the disintegration of the existent social order and the establishment of a new commodity-society relationship. During this process, the scholarly class became increasingly impoverished, standing on the verge of decline; whereas other classes competed to fill this cultural and political void with their economic wealth. To alleviate the sense of loss caused by status decline and the anxiety of identity blurring, the scholars tried to reshape their image by giving “elegance” a new meaning. Though this, they could build a distinctive self-image and categorize themselves from those so-called “connoisseurs” and “collectors”. The emergence of elegance-worshipping in the late Ming writings can be traced through the evocation of the word of “elegance”, which appeared frequently and became a critical discourse as well as an aesthetic standard of elite literati. However, it should be noted that the idea of “elegance” and “vulgarity” was not only used by elite literati groups, but also by ordinary literati who actively used these concepts to elevate their class identity and glorify themselves. Because of similar identities, ordinary literati had some viewpoint concerning “elegance” in common with elite scholars. However, different backgrounds and personal mental states made them different when evaluating specific objects. Li Yu is one of them.This talk will explore the aesthetic uniqueness of Li Yu by comparing his attitude towards “elegance” with the attitude of elite scholars.

地緣政治與經濟發展的轉變,為主權移交後香港電影中的男性社會想像帶來影響。以往研究顯示,香港自七十年代起經濟高速發展,隨之産生的經濟優越感亦成為香港陽剛建構的重要組成部份。在主權移交後,九七金融風暴、零三沙士爆發等危機大大打擊了香港的經濟地位,香港社會的男性建構亦因而改變。與此同時,民族主義和本土主義持續交鋒,亦影響著香港人的身份認同和陽剛建構。本講演將探討香港電影作為「集體政治無意識」,如何反映、介入後殖民香港人的性別主體建構。
Regarding gender identity as a kind of social construction, geopolitical and economic transformation may affect the social imagination of local men in post-97 Hong Kong cinema. Previous studies indicated that Hong Kong people’s masculinities are mainly valued by their economic superiority based on Hong Kong’s financial success since 1970s. However, after the transfer of sovereignty in 1997, economic upheavals, such as the 1997 Asian financial crisis and outbreak of SARS in 2003, challenged the economic status of Hong Kong, and the construction of Hong Kong masculinities may change accordingly. Meanwhile, the rise of two major ideologies, namely localism and nationalism, also plays a crucial role in forming local people’s identity as well as masculinity. This talk will examine how the post-97 Hong Kong cinema has reflected and contributed to the gendered subjectivity of Hong Kong people in the post-handover society.

汪端(1793-1839),字允莊,號小韞,錢塘(今浙江杭州)人。著有《自然好學齋詩鈔》十卷,選《明三十家詩選》初集二集。《明三十家詩選》作為中國歷史上唯一一部由女性編者選編的男性詩人作品集,為汪端贏得了諸多讚譽,她的“知人論世”原則也因此知名。除了選明詩以外,汪端在她的《自然好學齋詩鈔》中,留下了大量詠史和懷古作品。本次報告擬從歷史敘事的角度,分析汪端的詩歌創作和編輯活動,結合她的經歷、思想和交際情況,以期達到對嘉慶(1796-1820)、道光(1820-1850)年間錢塘地區才女文化的進一步理解。
Wang Duan was one of the most famous women poets in Qing China. She was born in a literati-scholar family in Qiantang (Hangzhou) and received scholar education. Her works, which cover a broad range of subjects and exhibit her interest in history, were published posthumously under the title Ziran haoxue zhai ji (Collected Writings from Natural Love-of-Learning Studio). Besides, what makes her unique was the fact that she was the editor of Ming sanshi jia shi xuan (Selected Poems of Thirty Ming Poets), a comprehensive anthology of Ming poetry written by male poets. She was also a profound historian. In this presentation, I will analyze Wang Duan’s life trajectory through her poetry writing (especially those poems related to history) to demonstrate how a 19th century female scholar empowered herself by writing, commenting and editing work.

本課探討中國民俗學、民間文學領域的重要議題,包括神話傳說、民間故事、戲劇、服飾及信仰習俗等。這些方面對現代中國文化和社會產生了廣泛而深遠的影響。課程亦將介紹民俗學、文學與文化批評等領域的相關理論,幫助學生理解和反思中國民俗文化的核心特徵。本課特別為學生提供體驗學習機會,參觀考察台北市區的孔廟、城隍廟、保安宮、偶戲館、天主堂、原住民文化博物館等,以增進學生對中國傳統和現代民俗及台灣地區特色民俗的了解。
本課由香港大學中文學院與台灣大學中文系合辦。全部教學活動在台灣大學及台北進行。赴台以團隊方式組織(老師及學生同去同回),行程由中文學院統一安排。文學院將提供資助,學生需負擔小部分費用,並預先辦理赴台灣的旅行證件及保險。

Yang Lian is one of the most innovative and influential contemporary Chinese poets whose works have been translated into many languages. Narrative Poem, Yang’s most personal work to date, is built around a series of family photographs, the first of which was taken on the day when he was born, on 22 February 1955, and the last of which dates from the time he spent undergoing ‘re-education through labour’ – and digging graves – during the mid-1970s. The poetry ranges backward and forward in time, covering his childhood and youth, his first period of exile in New Zealand, and his subsequent adventures and travels in and around Europe and elsewhere. Narrative Poem was published in China in 2011, and the bilingual edition (with Brian Holton’s English translation) was published in June this year. In this event, Yang Lian will read some poems in Chinese from his Narrative Poem and Dr. Lucas Klein will read Holton’s translations.

近四十年來,中國內地的當代文學迎來了黃金一代,湧現出莫言、賈平凹、王安憶、余華、張承志、韓少功、劉震雲、蘇童、格非、陳忠實和舒婷等大批著名作家,已有大量的文學批評文章。其中,莫言還榮獲2012年的諾貝爾文學獎。但是文學的經典化工作還沒有真正提上日程,例如文學作品在大中小學校的傳播,作家手稿及作品版本的研究鑒定,作家文集的出版和重版現象,當代作家傳記的撰寫和研究等等,仍未受到應有的重視。由於這些史料學的工作尚未開展,文學經典化的工作日程目前還不甚明了。本演講即是對上述問題的相關討論,以文學經典化與作品的壽命的關係作切入口,進一步觀察作家作品在讀者心目中和圖書市場上的生命力,以求加以理論性的解釋。本演講擬從“課本與經典化”、“手稿、版本發掘和重印”、“作家傳記文獻”等不同層面,討論當代作家作品存活時間以及在文學史中的命運。當然作家作品的經典化可能遠不止這些層面,具體到個人,實際情形也許比想像的複雜得多。不過,先從幾個層面介入,能使問題呈現出來,即使因此引起爭論和不同意見,也比不予討論和研究更具建設性的意義。
程光煒 現為中國人民大學文學院教授、博士生導師。中國當代文學研究會副會長,中國文學批評研究會副會長。主要從事中國當代文學史、當代作家年譜研究。曾在《文學評論》、《文藝研究》、《當代作家評論》、《文藝爭鳴》、《中國現代文學研究叢刊》和《南方文壇》等核心雜誌發表論文200餘篇。主要著作有《文學講稿:“八十年代”作為方法》、《文學史二十講》和《文化的轉軌》等。

以往史家凡講到周初重大歷史事件──武王克商,一般均強調其目的是要奉天命懲罰商紂王,鏟除暴虐,取而代之。朱鳳瀚教授綜合對西周早期青銅器銘文與文獻記載的考察和研究,提出武王東征滅商之最根本的企圖,是為周人能將政治中心靠近「天室」(即中嶽嵩山)掃除障礙。指出周人深信只有立都於「天下之中」,方能受天保佑,溥有四方。
朱鳳瀚教授(北京大學歷史系),北京大學博雅講席教授暨出土文獻研究所所長,曽任中國歷史博物館館長、中國國家博物館常務副館長。朱教授為國際著名的中國上古史、青銅器及出土文獻專家,其代表性專著包括《商周家族形態研究》(1990;2004)、《古代中國青銅器綜論》(2009)等。朱教授目前為香港大學中文學院訪問教授。

說起“開車的”,我們馬上理解為“開車的人”的省略,不會當它是“開車的技術”的省略;說起“修車的”,我們先想到“修車的人”,或許想到“修車的工具”,卻也不會想到“修車的技術”。有一派學者據此說“動詞短語+人/工具/……”和“動詞短語+技術/時間/……”不一樣。反對派說,要害只在前一類的名詞實而後一類的虛,“虛實”是意義上的差別,不能憑它搞語法上的分化。他們最愛搬出的反例是“我在技校學了許多技術,有開車的、修車的……,多著呢”。這個反例究竟有多大力量呢?他們在句中提供“技術”二字以為綫索,等於私自放寬了條件。我們姑從前說一分為二吧,也面臨不少問題,比如:“令狐沖殺人的劍法”到底屬於“修車的工具”(實)還是“開車的技術”(虛)?這次報告,我打算先梳理種種“動+的+名”結構的生成方式,從此看出其實有兩個同形的“開車的人”,一個和“開車的技術”一樣,一個卻不一樣。那時我們還會知道,前頭說的“省略”、“虛實”、“技校”、“令狐沖”等問題並不重要。
A Mandarin relative clause is usually a “VP+de” modifier that precedes an NP. Zhu朱德熙 (1978;1983) divides such modifiers into two types: if a modifier may refer to the whole “VP+de+NP” phrase alone, e.g. 開車 的(“to drive+de”)=開車 的 人 (“to drive+de+man”, both meaning “one who drives”), it is an S-type modifier; otherwise a T-type modifier, e.g. 開車 的(“to drive+de”)≠開車 的 技術(“to drive+de+technique”, meaning “the technique with which one drives”). His challengers say that whether a modifier can refer to the whole “VP+de+NP” is not quite a syntactic question; its answer changes according to the pragmatic environment. Therefore, they say, the two types need not be divided syntactically. In this talk, I will re-investigate the “VP+de+NP” phrase using a developed case-grammar. With the VP given, each NP is possible to be assigned to a certain “case” or not; furthermore, when the case mark is missing, it is not actually assigned even if it is assignable. The consequence is that when an NP should fall into the cases “agent” or “patient” (typically unmarked), its modifier can be read as either an S-type one or a T-type one, which reveals the source of confusion between the two types.

清代通行不同種類的官話。十八世紀和十九世紀中國流行著南方和北方兩種官話體系,「南音」和「北音」。例如,清代北京著名白話小說《鏡花緣》的作者李汝珍(1763-1830)在其著作中倡導兼學兩種官話。兼學南北音的這種觀念後來間接影響了1913年第一次定「國音」的過程,以至於國音的第一方案也由於含有南音和北音的各種特點而被貶視為「藍青官話」。普遍被眾人接受的單一普通話的當今時代,使得大家都忘記了清代官話所包含的豐富性。史上語言的多樣性依然迷人,值得回味。
Various versions of Mandarin were prevalent in the Qīng dynasty. They can be roughly classified into a northern and southern form of Mandarin, both of which were widely accepted in China in the 18th and 19th centuries, with both considered to be equally valid and both widely spoken. For example, the scholar Lǐ Rǔzhēn 李汝珍 (c. 1763–1830) a native of Běijīng and author of the novel Jìng huā yuán (鏡花緣) even played the role of advocate for embracing both kinds of Mandarin. This situation created the backdrop for the mixed standard for the first version of the National Pronunciation (Guóyīn 國音) established in 1913 that came to be known as Lánqīng Guānhuà 藍青官話. It is a state of affairs that is largely forgotten today with the general acceptance of a single Mandarin standard throughout the Chinese-speaking world. But the historical embrace of linguistic diversity is fascinating and well worth remembering.
史皓元教授是美國羅格斯-新澤西州立大學亞洲語言文化系終身教授、前系主任。先後至台灣大學和中國社會科學院進修,在美國西雅圖華盛頓州立大學研究生院獲得碩士與博士學位。主要著作有《漢語方言分區的理論與實踐》(英文版1999,中文版,2011)、《江淮官話與吳語邊界的方言地理學研究》(與石汝傑和顧黔合著,2006)、《漢語方言共同音系研究》(與顧黔合著,2014)等書。
Professor Richard VanNess Simmons is Professor of Chinese and Immediate Past Chair of the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Rutgers University. He holds a Master’s degree in Chinese literature, and a Ph.D. in Chinese linguistics from the University of Washington, Seattle. Simmons’ publications include Chinese Dialect Classification — A Comparative Approach to Harngjou, Old Jintarn, and Common Northern Wu (Amsterdam: John Benjamins, 1999; revision and translation in Chinese–Beijing: Zhonghua, 2011), Chinese Dialect Geography: Distinguishing Mandarin and Wu in Their Boundary Region (Shanghai: Shanghai Education, 2006) and Studies in Chinese and Sino-Tibetan Linguistics: Dialect, Phonology, Transcription and Text (2014).

本研究探討漢語詩律的起源及本質。永明詩對中國學術史而言,其意義不僅在於詩歌史,其文學、文化、語言諸方面之影響,也非其它詩體能匹配。論永明體,自然要談沈約聲律論。學界普遍認為,沈約首創“四聲八病”,並將四聲分成平仄兩類,構成漢語近體詩平仄對立的聲律體系。Victor Mair和Tsu-lin Mei則進一步主張,沈約是受梵詩格律影響而有“八病”之說、“平仄”之創。但令人困惑的是,沈約及六朝詩人的創作實踐並不遵守這些規則。作為一個曆仕三朝、該悉典章、博物洽聞、擅長詩文、為當世所稱的文壇領袖,其詩歌創作實踐居然跟其畢生倡導的理論扞格不入。這一悖論的問題究竟出在哪裡?是永明詩人言行不一抑或後人解讀有誤?本研究將從文獻、詩律學、語言學諸角度解決這一謎團,澄清跟中國詩歌史、語言史、方法論相關的一些問題。
This talk discusses the origin and nature of Chinese poetic prosody. Shen Yue is widely believed to have created the poetic metrical theory of si sheng ba bing (four tones and eight defects) and divided the four tones into ping (level tone) and ze (oblique tone) categories, thus forming the binary contrast prosodic system in Chinese regulated-style verse. Victor Mair and Tsu-lin Mei have further argued that the rules of the “eight defects” and the concept of ping-ze contrast were designed by Shen Yue under the influence of Sanskrit prosodic theory. The most challenging puzzle that remains for scholars in the field is to understand why Shen Yue and the other Six Dynasties poets failed to follow their own prosodic theory in their composition practices. The rise of regulated-style verse in the history of Chinese literature remains something of a mystery. Through a case study of Shen Yue’s poems, this talk aims to solve the puzzle by exploring: (1) the nature of poetic prosody, (2) tonal prosodic patterns in Chinese regulated verse, (3) problems with the Sanskrit origins hypothesis of Chinese tonal prosody, and (4) the pathways of Chinese poetic metricalization from the Six Dynasties (222–589) to the Tang dynasty (618–907).
張洪明教授(1981年復旦大學學士,1992年加州大學博士),現任威斯康辛大學麥迪遜校區亞洲語言文化系教授兼中文教學部主任。兼任中國教育部長江學者講座教授、南開大學語言研究所名譽所長。曾擔任國際中國語言學學會執行秘書長, Routledge Studies in Chinese Linguistics叢書主編、第三版《中國大百科全書》語言文字卷音系音韻詩律分支主編。主要研究領域為語音與語法的界面關係、韻律音系學、歷史語言學、方言學、詩律學等。
Professor Hongming Zhang first received his BA & MA in Chinese from Fudan University, after which he attended the University of California-San Diego where he received his MA & Ph.D. in linguistics. He is now a professor and the head of the Chinese Language & Linguistics Program as well as the director of UW-Tianjin Summer Chinese Program. He is also the recipient of Chang Jiang Scholar Chair Professorship. He has served the Nankai Linguistics Institute as its honorary director since 2006. Besides serving the International Association of Chinese Linguistics as its executive secretary (2000-2014), he is presently the series editor of Routledge Studies in Chinese Linguistics, and the editor of the volume of Phonology and Poetic Prosody of The Encyclopedia of China (3rd edition). His research interests include interface study of syntax-phonology, prosodic phonology, language change, rules/forms of classical poetic composition, and second language acquisition.

生物進化從本質上是隨機的,會使某個功能優化,卻無法保證一個子系統在整體上完美。如果人類語言的核心機制(通常稱作普遍語法)確如Chomsky所言,是大腦的一組專用功能,那麼其是否存在“功能缺陷”就是一個值得探索的課題。本文以漢語連動結構為出發點,論證下述觀點:普遍語法不知道如何為兩個不存在論元關係的動詞性成分建立結構關係。當該功能缺陷影響到正常造句,諸如象似性這類廣義的認知功能會介入造句過程,與普遍語法產生互動,並產生出連動結構所特有的一組語法現象。
Biological evolution is random in nature, capable of optimizing a particular function of a sub-system S but unable to guarantee that S as a whole be functionally flaw-less. If the core of the human language faculty (aka Universal Grammar) is a set of linguistically dedicated functions of the brain as Chomsky suggests, one is logically prompted to askwhether UG has functional flaws or gaps. This work does exactly that. Starting with the serial verb constructions (SVC) in Chinese, we proceed to prove that UG indeed contains one such functional gap: it is not programmed to structurally put together two bare verbal projections of which neither one is a thematic argument of the other. When this gap interferes with sentence-production, a general cognitive function such as iconicity is called in to help out, interacting with UG to yield a set of facts characteristic of SVC.
李亞非,麻省理工學院語言學博士(1990),2003年起任威斯康辛大學麥迪遜校區語言學系教授。研究領域包括句法,詞法-句法介面及科學哲學。兩部專著分別出版於麻省理工學院出版社和劍橋大學出版社(合著),亦曾在《中國語文》,Language,Language and Linguistics,Linguistic Inquiry,Natural Language and Linguistic Theory等期刊和一些專集發表論文。目前正在寫作一部建立形式語法與象似性介面關係的專著及在漢語疑問詞“怎麼,什麼,多麼”基礎上探討Sapir-Whorf假說的文章。
Yafei Li received a PhD from MIT in linguistics in 1990 and is now Professor in the Department of Linguistics at University of Wisconsin-Madison. The areas of research include syntax, the morphology-syntax interface and the philosophy of science. He published a book from the MIT Press and co-authored one from the Cambridge University Press. He also has articles from 《中國語文》,《外語教學與研究》,《當代語言學》, Language, Language and Linguistics, Linguistic Inquiry, Natural Language and Linguistic Theory, The Journal of East Asian Linguistics, The Linguistic Review, among other refereed journals and volumes. He is currently writing a book on the interface between universal grammar and iconicity, plus a few articles one of which explores the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis on the basis of a detailed study of Chinese question words zenme ‘how’, shenme ‘what’ and duome ‘how, how much’.

In this talk, I will focus on unpicking a single paragraph by author Jia Pingwa, from his novel Happy ( 《高興》) which I have just finished translating. By looking at my drafts and the final version, I will discuss some challenges such as sentence structure, dialect and (nick)names, as well as broader issues, including cultural references, implicit and explicit. Finally, I will consider the author’s intentions for this paragraph and discuss with the audience whether I have succeeded in recreating the same effect in English.
Nicky Harman lives in the UK. She is co-Chair of the Translators Association (Society of Authors, UK). She taught on the MSc in Translation at Imperial College until 2011 and now translates full-time from Chinese. She focuses on fiction, literary non-fiction, and occasionally poetry, by authors such as Chen Xiwo, Han Dong, Hong Ying, Dorothy Tse, Xinran, Xu Xiaobin, Yan Ge, Yan Geling and Zhang Ling. She has won a Mao Tai Cup People’s Literature Chinese-English translation prize, and first prize in the 2013 China International Translation Contest (Chinese-to-English section). She co-runs the “Read Paper Republic” project, posting and promoting free-to-view short stories translated from Chinese. She organizes translation-focused events, mentors new translators and judges translation competitions. She has contributed to literary magazines such as AsianCha, Chutzpah, and Words Without Borders, and she tweets, with Helen Wang, as China Fiction Book Club @cfbcuk.

Of the several thousand Chinese eunuchs for whom we have names, only a few are not ridiculed as negative characters in Chinese history and popular culture. In opera they are most often seen in chou 丑 or clown roles, but in two newly edited Beijing operas, Zheng He 鄭和 (1371-1433) and Chen Lin 陳琳are cast in principal and principled roles. In Tianjin Qingnian jingjv tuan’s Zheng He xia xiyang 鄭和下西洋,Meng Guanglu 孟廣祿 (1948-) plays the role of Zheng He, who ventured out on seven naval voyages to as far as the east coast of Africa. In Shanghai jingjv tuan’s Limao huan taizi 狸貓換太子 Chen Shaoyun 陳少雲 (1948-) performs the role of Chen Lin, who sacrificed his life saving the infant, the future Song Renzong 宋仁宗 (r.1010-1963). The main objective of this paper is to compare and contrast the representation of the historical Zheng He and the fictional Chen Lin.

清初小說《林蘭香》講述了一個貴冑家庭中幾位女性的命運,作者讚賞她們出眾的文學才華,但小說同時暗示:女性的文學才華只在特定情況下是美好的,一旦超出了合理範疇,這種才華就會帶來危險。首先,如果女性的文學作品流入外部世界,她自己就有被輕薄的危險;其次,如果女性的“才”蓋過了“德”,她就不再是稱職的妻子和母親,會遭到丈夫的疏遠;最後,燕夢卿早逝的命運反映了歷史上人們對於“才女早逝”現象的迷戀,而這種迷戀來源於當時社會對女性才華的消極看法。
The early Qing fiction Lin Lan Xiang tells a story about the destinies of several women who live in a noble family. Even though the author appreciates their outstanding literary talent, the fiction implies that women’s literary talent is defined as a good thing only under certain circumstances. If a woman behaves inappropriately, her talent might bring harm to her. Firstly, if strangers saw a woman’s poems or paintings, there will be possibilities that she be molested. Secondly, when her talent overrides her morality, she wouldn’t be considered as a competent wife and mother any more, and could be estranged by her husband. Last but not least, Yan Mengqing’s death at an early age reflects the obsession of “talented women die young” in the history, and this obsession derived from the negative attitude towards women’s talent in traditional society.

歐陽江河,著名朦朧派詩人。1956年出生於四川。著有詩集《透過詞語的玻璃》、《誰去誰留》、《鳯凰》及評論集《站在虛構這邊》等。去年於第十四屆華語文學傳媒盛典頒獎典禮憑詩集《大是大非》榮膺年度傑出作家。其詩強調奇崛複雜及語言上的異質混成,以及個人經驗和公共現實的深度聯繫。

《尚書》是中國非常重要的文獻,儒家視為經典之一,然而,有關《尚書》的編者及成書年代問題,學術界至今未有定論。又因《尚書》的流傳過程複雜,存在今古文及真偽的爭議,經學家的研究自漢代開始至今已有兩千多年。20世紀以來,大量簡帛文獻問世,目前發現的簡牘總數達三十萬餘枚,內容非常豐富。清華大學在2008年從海外購藏一批戰國楚簡,當中與《尚書》相關篇章分別有〈金縢〉、〈尹誥〉、〈尹至〉、〈保訓〉、〈傅說之命〉,這些篇章的發現為《尚書》的研究提供嶄新的資料。此次演講以《清華大學藏戰國竹簡(壹)》中的〈金縢〉篇為個案,通過〈金縢〉篇傳世本與簡本的對讀,擬從上古史研究、訓詁學及文獻學三個角度闡明清華簡對於《尚書》研究的價值及意義。
The Book of Documents (Shang Shu) has been one of the most important classics of ancient Chinese literature and Confucian scriptures for more than two millennia. The author(s) and dating of Shang Shu, however, have long been debated. The transmission process of various versions of Shang Shu was particularly complex, and has long been a subject of controversy since the Han Dynasty. There have been more than 100 discoveries of bamboo and silk manuscripts in China since the 20th century, unearthing over 300,000 strips which contain substantial content. The Tsinghua Bamboo Strips were acquired by Tsinghua University in 2008. These manuscripts are believed to date from Chu state of the late Warring States period. Several texts in the Tsinghua bamboo strips can be correlated to the extant version of Shang Shu, including the “Jinteng”, “Yingao”, “Yinzhi”, “Baoxun”, and “FuYue zhi ming”, providing substantial and new resources and evidence for further researches on Shang Shu. By comparing the textual variations between the existing version of “Jinteng” with its excavated counterpart, my presentation aims to illustrate the value and significance of the Tsinghua bamboo strips in the studying of Shang Shu from historical, exegetical and philological perspectives.

現今流通傳播的先秦典籍文獻,經歷了漢唐以還的傳鈔修訂,原始的內容及語言面貌難以保全。二十世紀以來,大量簡帛材料逐漸出土,當中部分能與傳世文獻互相比照,使我們得以看見各種典籍較初始的版本。例如郭店楚墓竹簡、上海博物館藏戰國楚竹書及清華大學藏戰國竹簡,當中能與傳本對照的文獻共九種,包括《老子》、《周易》、《禮記.緇衣》篇、《尚書.金縢》篇等。是次演講將從異文互證的角度,探析郭店、上博及清華簡本與傳世本中部分否定詞的使用規律,揭示古漢語語法的歷時變遷。
The pre-Qin texts we see nowadays were heavily revised throughout the Han to Tang Dynasties. The original contents and language were not preserved. Since the Twentieth Century, plenty of materials like bamboo and silk manuscripts have been unearthed. Some texts from the excavated materials can be compared with the extant pre-Qin texts, for example, Laozi, Zhouyi (Classic of Changes), The Chapter Ziyi of Liji (Book of Rites) and The Chapter Jinteng of Shangshu (Book of Documents). They can be collated with the texts of the bamboo manuscripts of Guodian as well as the bamboo manuscripts collected by the Shanghai Museum and Tsinghua University. This seminar will focus on the textual variants between the pre-Qin texts and three bamboo manuscripts: Guodian, Shangbo and Tsinghua. By examining the pattern of negation of the textual variants, I will explore the diachronic changes of the classical Chinese grammar.

“元氣自然論”是李商隱詩歌本源論的核心表述,也是其全部詩學觀的重要基石。其哲學本源可追溯到先秦作為物質起源說的“元氣自然論”。中唐柳宗元、劉禹錫對天人關係的討論是李商隱“元氣自然論”的重要思想背景,劉禹錫、白居易等人有關“氣”的文學思想,也給予李商隱直接的啟發。作為一種受道家影響明顯的美學思想,“元氣自然論”是對傳統儒家以政教為基本功能的文學思想的重要補充。李商隱用“元氣自然論”來解釋具有明顯的變風變雅色彩的元結“危苦激切、悲憂酸傷於性命之際”的文學創作,指出其由變而返正的創作實質;但更多是藉此提出他自己不同於韓愈一派古文家的文學起源論和文道論。“元氣自然論”所包含的尚真、任情的審美思想,是造就李商隱詩歌創作在題材與風格上的獨特性的重要原因,也由此形成李商隱詩歌整體上的“緣情”特徵。
Theory of nature-pneuma describes Li Shangyin’s understanding about the origin of poetry, which lays a strong foundation for his poetics. It can be traced back to the theory of nature-pneuma used to explain the origin of things in pre-Qin dynasty. Liu Yuxi’s and Liu Zongyuan’s discussion on the relation between heaven and man offered an important background of Li’s theory, whereas Bai Juyi and Liu Yuxi’s literary thoughts about pneuma also inspired Li. As a Daoism-influenced aesthetic thought, theory of nature-pneuma is a significant supplement of the Confucian poetic education, which regards political education as the basic function of literature. This talk examines how Li used the theory to expound the impassioned and sad style of Yuan Jie’s works and to explicate the orthodox, instead of variant, essence of Yuan’s writing. It also argues that Li employed the theory to offer his ideas on Dao and the origin of literature that are different from those held by Han Yu and other writers of ancient-style prose. In short, the aesthetic ideas of advocating truth and following feelings embedded in the theory of nature-pneuma are key factors that have contributed to the thematic and stylistic uniqueness of Li’s writing, and helped form the characteristic of “expressing emotions” in Li’s poetry.
劉青海,北京大學文學博士,現為上海師範大學副教授。曾先後在韓國江陵大學、香港嶺南大學講學。主要從事中古詩歌史和中古文學史研究。已出版《比較詩學結構:中西文論研究的三種視角》(譯著)、《李白詩選》(合著)、《詩詞寫作常識》(合著)等著作,並在《文學遺產》、《北京大學學報》、《文藝理論研究》等學術刊物上發表論文三十餘篇。
Liu Qinghai obtained her PhD from Peking University. She is currently Associate Professor at Shanghai Normal University, and has taught in Korea and Lingnan University, HK. Her main research areas are medieval Chinese poetry and literary history. She has published extensively, including more than thirty articles in China’s top-tiered journals.

講座摘要 在重新審視二十世紀中國文學的研究背景下,清末民初的舊體文學創作近年來受到學者的關注。已有研究集中於宋詩派和清遺民的創作活動,其他如南社詩人研究,也多關注其詩歌與政治、革命的關係。本演講以南社詩人黃節(1873-1935)客居北京期間所作詩歌為例,討論黃節如何將古典詩歌作為一種社會交往和抒情的手段,呈現現代中國的日常生活經驗。黃詩通過書寫北京風物、友朋酬贈及其客居體驗,反映出時代變革下的文人心境和自我認同。同時,也可藉此探討傳統詩歌樣式和書寫在現代中國的意義。
Abstract Influenced by the trend of reevaluating Chinese literature in twentieth century, more attentions has been paid to traditional-style writings in late Qing and early Republican eras. Current research primarily focus on writings by Song Poetry School and Qing loyalists, while studies on Nanshe group rely more on political and revolutionary perspectives. This talk examines Huang Jie (1873-1935)’s classical-style writings during his settlement in Republican Beijing, by investigating how classical-style poetry was used as a method of social practice and lyricism in modern era. Huang’s poetry well represented the daily life and sojourning experience in Republican Beijing, hence reflected the literati mentality and self-identity in the transformation period. Moreover, the significance of traditional literary form and classical-style writings in modern China is also discussed.
講者簡介 孫瑩瑩,香港大學哲學博士,香港中文大學(深圳)人文社科學院講師,研究興趣包括清末民初的古典文學書寫,現代中國的文學批評,南社研究及古典文獻學等。著有《張裕釗年譜長編》(河南人民,2014),並發表過十數篇研究論文。
About the Speaker Graduated from HKU, Dr. Sun Yingying is currently a lecturer in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shen Zhen. Her research interests include classical-style writings in modern China, classical literary criticism, Nanshe Studies and philology. She has published one book The Chronicle of Zhang Yuzhao and dozens of research articles.

講座摘要 詞體與流行文化有密切的連結,具有抒情、社交以及娛樂等實用功能;詞人的創作目的從「應歌」到「應社」,甚至成為節慶祝壽的社交餽贈。本文將討論南宋劉克莊「自壽詞」所展現的生平及自我形象,壽詞從「壽他」轉向「自壽」,已成為一種抒情言志的新形式,而「自壽」這樣的宋詞「變體」,正適合劉克莊在新變中張揚自己的狂豪之氣與怨怒之音。
Abstract The style of Ci liaised closely with the popular culture and served practical functions such as sentimental expression, social intercourse and entertainment. However, the purpose of Ci had shifted from creating a convivial atmosphere for gatherings to social activities of, say, poetry clubs. Ci works even became the gifts that poets presented at celebratory feasts. This talk deals with Ke-Zhuang Liu, a renowned poet who flourished in the Southern Song Dynasty, with a special focus on his life and the self-image he manifested in his “Ci-poetry for Birthday Self-Congratulation.” The receivers of Ci-poetry for birthday congratulation had changed from the hosts to the Ci writers themselves, which implied that Ci-poetry had become a new literary form for expressing one’s sentiments and ambitions. This variant of Ci happened to be suitable for Liu to exude his bold and unconstrained temperament as well as to vent his grudges and wrath.
講者簡介 佘筠珺博士,京都立命館大學客員研究員、非常勤講師。畢業於台灣大學中國文學所,曾任教於台灣世新大學,並為科技部海外博士後研究員。學術研究領域為詞學、日本近代漢詩詞。詞學代表著作為《臨場展演與書寫技藝:社交視域下的夢窗詞》,尤其關注在南宋詞的發展變化。日本近代漢詩詞的研究以大正詩人久保天隨為中心,討論清末民初東亞漢詩人的詩詞交流活動。
About the Speaker Dr. Yun-Chun She is currently a visiting research fellow and an adjunct lecturer at Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto. After earning her PhD in Chinese Literature from National Taiwan University, Dr. She had taught at Shih Hsin University (Taiwan) and worked as an overseas post-doctoral fellow of the Ministry of Science and Technology (Taiwan). Her research interests center on Ci study and Chinese Ci-poetry in early modern Japan. Immediate Performance and Writing Artistry: Mengchuang Ci under the Perspective of Socializing is her chef-d’oeuvre with a particular focus on the evolution of Ci in the Southern Song Dynasty. Her research on Chinese Ci-poetry in early modern Japan revolves around the literary exchange among East Asian Chinese poets during the late Qing and early Republic period in general, and the Japanese poet Kubo Tenzui in particular.

講座摘要 這次報告以《中州啟劄》內三十餘通與呂遜的書信為線索,重構呂遜在金元之際的動向和其橫跨華北地區的書信網絡,揭示呂遜作為元初兩大儒學集團溝通橋樑的重要角色,並藉著分析與呂遜諸通信的內容和時代背景,探討士人如何透過書信傳達請託與勉勵的訊息,在金元之際的困境中相互扶持。
Abstract On the basis of about thirty letters addressed to Lü Xun in the fourteenth-century letter collection Epistolary Writings of the Central Plain, this presentation reconstructs the movement of Lü Xun and his epistolary network in the northern territories during the Jin-Yuan transition. It reveals how Lü Xun served as a bridge between two core groups of Confucian scholars in the early Yuan. Through an analysis of the content and historical context of various letters to Lü Xun, we can see how literati in the north conveyed requests and encouragements and supported each other during difficult times.
講者簡介 朱銘堅,嶺南大學歷史系博士。現任香港浸會大學饒宗頤國學院研究助理教授。曾任香港樹仁大學歷史學系講師、英國倫敦大學國王學院和荷蘭萊頓大學博士後研究員。其研究興趣包括五代、宋、元時期的歷史和中國史學史。
About the Speaker Ming Kin CHU holds a PhD degree in History from Lingnan University. He is currently a Research Assistant Professor in The Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology at Hong Kong Baptist University. Previously he has been a lecturer in the Department of History at Hong Kong Shue Yan University and a postdoctoral research associate at King’s College London and Leiden University. His research interests include political, educational, institutional, social and cultural history in Middle-period China (Five Dynasties, Song and Yuan) and Chinese historiography.

講座摘要 性別認同是西漢(西元前206年 – 西元前8年)社會和家庭研究中最具爭議的問題之一。傳統歷史文獻(如《史記》、《漢書》)中零星的敘事常常彼此齟齬。在一個故事中,丈夫和妻子平等無差;在另一個故事中,則貴賤有別。而考古新出土的物質文化材料使我們可以完整地認識這個問題。本文論證:位於河北滿城的西漢中山靖王劉勝(卒於西元前113年)及王后竇綰(卒於約西元前109年)兩座彼此平行的墓葬全面體現了夫妻之間既平等又有等級的複雜微妙的有機關係。本文參考漢代文獻記載,仔細比較墓室的建築設計、隨葬品的類型和分佈,以及對身體的處理。討論了四個主要問題:(1)對男性和女性身體的不同處理方式強調了兩性之間身理差異之重要性; (2)夫婦的墓葬建築和隨葬品之間互為鏡像的關係反映了兩性間的平等概念;(3)夫婦墓在隨葬品上的整體等級差異表明了男性的優越; (4)妻子通過墓中的政治象徵和宗教意象維持她的與眾不同和權力。本文為研究西漢和中國早期帝國時代性別、家庭和權力等社會問題提供了一個新的物質視覺文化的視角。
Abstract Gender identity was among the most controversial issues of the society and family in Western Han (206 BCE – 8 CE). In one historical episode a husband and a wife were equal, and in another, unequal. This paper argues that the twin tombs of Prince Liu Sheng (d. 113 BCE) and his wife, Dou Wan (d. ca. 109 BCE), comprehensively embody such a complex and nuanced relationship between a couple, both equal and hierarchical. In doing so, in light of contemporary literary accounts, this paper closely compares the architectural designs, types and distributions of burial objects, and body treatments in the tombs. Four major problems are discussed: (1) the different treatments of the male and female bodies emphasize the importance of maintaining gender distinction between the couple; (2) the mutual mirroring between the couple’s funerary architecture and burial objects reflects the notion of equality; (3) the overall hierarchy in material contents between the couple’s tombs demonstrates male superiority; (4) the wife maintains her distinction and power through political symbolism and religious imagery. This paper provides a material perspective on the social history of gender and complicated relationship of husband and wife as envisioned and practiced in Western Han and early imperial China.
講者簡介 芝加哥大學人文學院博士(2017)。研究興趣為早期中國(兩周秦漢南北朝)的物質視覺文化與思想史的關係,以及文本與圖像之間的互動。他已經發表了十多篇中英文論文,其近作見於《哈佛亞洲學志》、《通報》、《美國東方學會學刊》、《古代中國》、《華裔學志》等。目前他剛完成了一部題為《修齊治平的模型——中國古代的王陵與政治智慧》的英文專著的書稿。
About the Speaker Expecting his PhD at University of Chicago in June 2017, Jie Shi is interested in ancient Chinese intellectual history, particularly in the visual and material perspective, and in the interaction between text and image. He has published over a dozen articles and book chapters, both in English and Chinese, and his most recent works have appeared in such journals as Harvard Journal of Asiatic Studies, T’oung Pao, Journal of American Oriental Society, Early China, and Monumenta Serica. He has just completed a book-length manuscript titled Modeling Peace: Royal Tombs and Political Wisdom in Early China.

溫宗堯是近代中國一個傳奇的人物。一生立場多變,是政治變色龍。因溫宗堯晚年附日,歷史上對他的評價,毀多於譽。在晚清最後十年,溫宗堯是聲明鵲起的洋務官員,在清末民初赫有大名,而在民國初年,他活躍於外交界。二十年代初以後,他息影泉林,長年在上海作寓公,埋首個人事業。三十年代末,他重投宦海。當時反日之聲高唱入雲,他卻反其道而行,參加日本在華的傀儡政權,經常發表極其露骨的反蔣和親日言論,屢為時人所詬病。抗戰勝利以後,他因通敵,面臨審判,最後鬱鬱而終。溫宗堯是晚清、民國聞人,但有關他生平有關的資料相當零散且互有分歧。直至現在,還未見任何有關溫宗堯的系統研究,人們對溫宗堯的生平仍是一知半解。本文嘗試利用各種原始資料,重構溫宗堯不平凡的一生。
Wen Tsung-yao is a legendary figure in modern China. He was truly a chameleon in realpolitik because his political stance changed repeatedly. As he had been a collaborator with Japanese, historical comments on him are mainly negative. But in the last decade of Qing dynasty, he was highly prestigious as an official responsible for foreign affairs. In the early years of republican era, he was active in Chinese diplomacy. After 1920s he retired from politics and dedicated his energy to his personal enterprises. By the end of 1930s, he participated in politics again. At the time, the anti-Japanese atmosphere was violent, but he went the opposite way, joining the Chinese puppet-government of Japan. He always made undisguised comments with strong pro-Japanese inclination, and at the same time opposing the rule of Chiang Kai-shek. In many occasions these provoked the anger of Chinese. After the victory, he faced trial for collaboration, and died in great despair. Wen Tsung-yao was truly a celebrity of late Qing and early republican eras, but the information related to him was scattered and full of inconsistency. Until now, there is no biographical research on Wen Tsung-yao, and we are still lacking a clear understanding about him. This paper attempts to reconstruct the life and career of Wen Tsung-yao by using various unexplored primary sources.

港大—北大暑期課程
This course is one of the 2016-17 “HKU-China 1000 Exchange Scheme” programmes. It is offered by the School of Chinese in collaboration with the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Peking University. All lectures, tutorials, and workshops are conducted in PKU campus. The Ministry of Education will allocate a standard rate subsidy to Peking University for expenses in lodging, local transportation, dining, and other related items. The travel will be strictly organized in one group (teachers and students together), and arrangements will be centrally coordinated by the School of Chinese. Students are responsible for the round-trip airfare* and personal expenses. They should also prepare travel documents and life/health insurance for the Mainland trip.
(* Pre-payments will be collected to book group tickets. After the whole trip is finished, half of the airfare will be reimbursed by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong under the Mainland Experience Scheme.)

本課探討中國民俗學的一系列重要方面,包括神話、民間故事、民間歌謠、傳統戲曲表演、傳統建築、民間信仰、節慶習俗等。這些方面對現代中國文化與社會產生了廣泛而深遠的影響。授課中將介紹民俗學、文學與文化批評等相關領域的理論,幫助學生深入思考中國民俗文化的核心特徵,及民俗在過去一個世紀中國社會巨變中的延續和發展。本課亦組織數次參觀考察活動,使學生切身體驗、了解北京地區的傳統及現代民俗文化。活動主要包括參觀北京民俗展覽,京郊搜集民間故事,走訪四合院建築,欣賞傳統曲藝表演等。
本課程為2016-17年“香港大學千人內地交流計劃”項目之一,由香港大學中文學院與北京大學中文系合作開辦。講座、導修及工作坊全部在北京大學進行。國家教育部劃撥定額補助金予北京大學,以支付住宿、交通、餐飲及其他相關的費用。赴京旅行必須以團隊形式(老師及學生同去同回),行程將由中文學院統一安排。學生需負擔往返機票*及個人支出,並預先辦理赴內地的旅行證件及保險。
