Clerk I in the School of Chinese (Ref.: 201300346) (from May 9, 2013 or as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)
Applicants should possess 5 passes in HKCEE including English (min. Grade C if Syllabus A/Level 2 from 2007), Chinese (Level 2 from 2007) and Mathematics OR min. Level 2 or equivalent in 5 subjects in HKDSEE including English Language, and at least 5 years’ relevant experience, with a high level of proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese as well as fluency in Putonghua. The ideal candidate should have received highly specialized training to perform complex tasks such as financial management and should have good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, an ability to work systematically and independently, and a sound knowledge of PC software applications such as Excel and database management. The appointee will provide clerical, secretarial and technical support for Chinese courses offered to staff and students, “Chinese as a foreign language” courses as well as a self-funded Chinese language certificate programme, and perform any other duties as assigned. Degree holders may be offered the functional title of Executive Assistant.

Applicants should possess a Higher Diploma in Computer Science or equivalent, preferably plus 1 year’s relevant post-qualification experience. They should also have a good command of spoken and written English and Chinese, including Putonghua. Those with work experience in MS Windows Server and Exchange Server 2008 or above, SQL Server and Cloud Computing would have an advantage. The appointee will provide technical support for PCs, servers and peripherals; develop web-based applications; manage and maintain the School website etc.

(1) Assistant Professor in Chinese History and Culture (Ref.: 201300022) (2) Assistant Professor in Translation (Ref.: 201300023) (tenable from September 1, 2013 on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal. An appointee with demonstrated performance will be considered for tenure towards the end of the second three-year contract.
For post (1), applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Chinese history or related areas. They should pursue an active agenda of research and publication that can complement and reinforce the Programme’s strengths in the board spectrum of Chinese historical, religious and cultural studies. The successful candidate should be able to develop and conduct courses in: (a) the history of the dissemination and the cultural influence of foreign religions (such as Manichaeism, Zoroastrianism, Christianity, Islam and Protestantism) in China; and / or (b) Chinese philosophical traditions (such as Song-Ming Neo-Confucianism and contemporary New Confucianism). For post (2), applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Translation or related areas. They should pursue an active agenda of research and publication that can complement and reinforce the Programme’s existing strengths in the board spectrum of bilingual studies. The successful candidate should be well-versed in Practical Translation and Translation Theory. The ability to develop and conduct courses that are consonant with the curricular needs of the Programme and can inspire creative and critical reflection on vital language issues will be a definite advantage. For both posts, the School values a strong commitment to the development of innovative research paradigms and pedagogical approaches. Primary teaching responsibilities will be at the undergraduate level, but the appointee will also be expected to supervise M.Phil. dissertations and Ph.D. projects. A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee's qualifications and experience will be offered. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave and medical benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
