摘要 Abstract:

在18、19世紀，英國應該是世界上最重要的國家。19世紀末，英國建立了強大的日不落帝國，大英帝國成為人類歷史上地域最廣、人口最多、影響力最大的帝國。英帝國在形成過程中，既有對當地土著人的鎮壓，也有與其他殖民國家的爭奪。這一過程對英國社會發展、世界近現代國際關係史和政治地理的發展演變，均有著重大影響。帝國的擴張、帝國內部大規模的人口流動、帝國範圍內商品的流通、植物的引進、工業革命以及英國對外貿易的迅猛發展等，使得英帝國在加強帝國內部聯繫的同時，也大大推動了全球化進程。

During the 18th and 19th centuries, Britain was arguably the world's most important country. By the end of the 19th century, Britain had built the powerful Empire on which the Sun Never Sets, making the British Empire the largest empire in human history in terms of territory, population and global influence. The formation of the British Empire entailed both the suppression of indigenous peoples and conflicts with other colonial powers. This process exerted profound impacts on Britain's social development, the modern history of international relations worldwide, and the evolution of political geography. Imperial expansion, large-scale population movements within the empire, cross-empire commodity circulation, the introduction of new plant species, the Industrial Revolution, and Britain's booming foreign trade not only strengthened internal ties across the empire but also greatly accelerated the advancement of globalization.

講者簡介 About the Speaker:

郭家宏    北京師範大學歷史學院教授、博士生導師，《北京師範大學學報（社會科學版）》執行主編，全國高等學校文科學報研究會副理事長，中國英國史研究會副會長，國家社科基金重大項目首席專家，英國劍橋大學歷史系、美國哈佛大學歷史系高級訪問學者。主要從事英國史、英帝國史研究，主編有《英國社會治理叢書（十卷）》，著有《日不落帝國的興衰》、《英帝國史》、《近代英國貧富差距問題研究》、《近代英國英國醫療服務體制》、《斯里蘭卡通史》等著作。

Guo Jiahong is a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the School of History, Beijing Normal University, Executive Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Beijing Normal University (Social Sciences), Vice Chairman of the National Society of University Liberal Arts Journals, Vice President of the Chinese Society for British History Studies, and Chief Expert of Major Projects of the National Social Science Fund of China. He has served as a Senior Visiting Scholar at the Department of History, University of Cambridge, UK, and the Department of History, Harvard University, USA. His main research fields are British history and the history of the British Empire. He has edited the ten-volume Series on British Social Governance and authored numerous works including The Rise and Fall of the Empire on Which the Sun Never Sets, A History of the British Empire, A Study on the Gap Between the Rich and the Poor in Modern Britain, The Medical Service System of Modern Britain, and A Comprehensive History of Sri Lanka.
