唐宋婚姻、信息與政治網絡的轉變

Transformations in Medieval Chinese Marriage, Communication, and Political Networks

十一至十三世紀間人際關係與各型態網絡的轉變，是否意味著帝制中國整體社會結構存在更大幅度的變遷？在本次演講中，魏希德教授將藉由檢視不同型態網絡間的關係，重新探討今人能如何理解「唐宋變遷」時期中國社會秩序所發生的廣泛變化。魏希德教授首先將回顧學界研究唐宋時期菁英士族婚姻網絡的既有成果。其次，將以近期著作與現正進行之黨派政治研究為基礎，進一步闡釋十二至十三世紀的信息溝通與政治網絡運作如何促成地方士人社群對一統帝國歷久彌堅的政治想像。最後將以現階段研究觀察為總結，指出信息流通和政治網絡如何與持續衍變的婚姻網絡交互作用，而各種網絡間的互動又如何形塑帝制中國晚期的政治社會秩序。

 

Did changes in relationships and networks between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries imply a broader shift in the overall structure of imperial Chinese society? In this presentation, I revisit the question of how we can understand broader changes in the imperial social order during the so-called Tang-Song transition by examining the relationship between different kinds of networks. I start with a review of earlier scholarship on elite marriage networks during the Tang and Song periods. On the basis of my own recent monograph and ongoing research on factional politics, I then move on to the question of how communication and political networks during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries contributed to a lasting preference for a unified imperial state amongst provincial elites. I will conclude with some observations on how communication and political networks interacted with evolving marriage networks and explain how interactions between such different networks shaped the late imperial socio-political order.

 

魏希德 現職萊頓大學中國史教授。著有《義旨之爭：南宋科舉規範之折衡》(中譯本), Information, Territory, and Networks: The Crisis and Maintenance of Empire in Song China。魏教授亦是碼庫思古籍半自動標記平台、Knowledge and Text Production in an Age of Print 與《宋代研究工具書刊指南—修訂版》的編者。近期參與兩項出版計畫，包括帝制中國與中古歐洲政治溝通比較研究的論文集，以及英譯本《貞觀政要》；並投入以中古君主培育文本 “Mirrors to Princes”為中心的全球思想史研究。

 

Hilde De Weerdt is Professor of Chinese History at Leiden University. She is the author of Competition over Content: Negotiating Standards for the Civil Service Examinations in Imperial China and Information, Territory, and Networks: The Crisis and Maintenance of Empire in Song China. She co-edited the MARKUS Classical Chinese Text Analysis and Reading Platform, Knowledge and Text Production in an Age of Print, and 宋代研究工具書刊指南. She is completing a volume on political communication in medieval Chinese and European history and a joint translation of 貞觀政要. She is also working on a global intellectual history of political advice literature.
