演講摘要:
《馮秉芬爵士傳》即將由中華書局(香港)有限公司出版,該書可以說是馮美蓮、尹耀全《庋藏遠見——馮平山》(2013)的續篇。馮秉芬爵士為繼承父親馮平山的事業,不惜中途輟學,放棄香港大學中文學院的學位,不過卻展開了他瑰麗的人生。除了家族生意以外,由馮爵士推動或直接參與的,包括文化、教育、社會各類慈善事業多不勝數。馮爵士的瑰麗人生,幾乎等同香港自1911年以來所經歷的跌宕起伏。本演講的目的,不僅在於介紹一位對香港有莫大貢獻的人生經歷,更在於分享本書在觀點、方法和資料使用上的特色。

 

講者介紹:
李培德教授,香港中文大學新亞書院歷史系畢業,獲日本政府獎學金留學東京大學,專攻亞洲史學(東洋史學),獲文學碩士和文學博士學位。曾任香港大學亞洲研究中心專職研究員、香港大學歷史系名譽講師、香港大學現代語言及文化學院名譽教授。2003年獲選Hong Kong Fulbright Scholar,2011-13年任香港亞洲研究學會會長,2017-22年任華中師範大學亞洲研究院副院長,2023年日本學術振興會特邀研究員(Invitational Fellow),現任華僑大學華僑華人與區域國別研究院特聘教授。 李培德教授的主要研究興趣為香港史、中國近代史、亞洲史,代表性著作包括:《香港史研究書目題解》(2001)、《日本文化在香港》(2006)、《繼往開來──香港廠商七十五年》(2009)、《大過渡──時代變局中的中國商人》(2013)、《近代アジアの都市と日本:香港都市案內集成》(2013-14)、Networks of Power and Wealth in the Cantonese Pacific: The Yips and the Kwoks, 1864-1949 (in print) 與及多篇以中、英、日文發表的單篇論文。

 

主持介紹:
丁新豹教授於1995年至2007年出任香港歷史博物館總館長,期間參與了多個博物館的規劃和建設,包括新香港歷史博物館、香港海防博物館、孫中山紀念館、廣東省博物館、深圳博物館和南山博物館。現為香港大學中文學院名譽教授、香港大學美術博物館榮譽顧問、香港教育大學客座教授、香港中文大學榮譽高級研究員,以及香港大學及香港理工大學院士。丁教授是香港及珠江三角洲地區歷史研究的傑出學者,著有多少關於香港文化遺產的獲獎著作。亦為香港中文大學歷史系客座教授、香港中國近代史學會會長、香港古物諮詢委員會委員、衞奕信勳爵文物信託委員、香港教育局委員;香港歷史學會、香港歷史博物館、深圳博物館和廣東省博物館的榮譽顧問。他在博物館管理方面成就傑出,畢生貢獻歷史研究,於2019年獲香港特區政府授予銅紫荊星章。

Abstract:
Sir Kenneth Ping Fan Fung biography will soon be published by Chung Hwa Book Company (Hong Kong) Limited. This volume could be seen as a sequel to Fung Ping Shan: The Man, His Life and His Library by Cornelia Nelly Lichauco Fung and Y. C. Wan. To inherit his father’s commercial empire, Sir Kenneth had to drop out from his university studies, thus abandoning his pursue of a Chinese studies degree at the University of Hong Kong’s School of Chinese but commencing a magnificent chapter of his life that altered forever the history of Hong Kong. Besides his family business, Sir Kenneth promoted or participated in numerous cultural, educational, and charitable causes. Sir Kenneth ’s multifaceted life was a microcosm of Hong Kong’s trials and tribulations from 1911 onwards. The purpose of this talk is not only to delineate the life and career of someone who contributed greatly to Hong Kong’s emergence as a world city, but also to share the viewpoints, research methods, and archival materials utilized in the writing process of an upcoming volume focusing on Sir Kenneth Fung.

 

About the speaker: 
Professor Lee Pui Tak graduated from the Department of History at New Asia College, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and received a Japanese government scholarship to study at the University of Tokyo, specializing in Asian history (Oriental history), where he earned a Master and Doctor degree. He served as Research Officer at the Centre for Asian Studies, University of Hong Kong; an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of History, University of Hong Kong, and an Honorary Professor at the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, University of Hong Kong. He was selected as a Hong Kong Fulbright Scholar in 2003 and served as President of the Asian Studies Association of Hong Kong from 2011 to 2013.From 2017 to 2022, he was Deputy Dean of the Academy of Asian Studies at Central China Normal University. He was selected as an Invitational Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science in 2023. He is now a Distinguished Professor at Huaqiao University's Research Institute of Global Chinese and Area Studies. 

Professor Lee’s research interests include Hong Kong history, modern Chinese history, and Asian history. His representative works include: An Annotated Bibliography of Hong Kong History (2001), Japanese Culture in Hong Kong (2006), Seventy-five Years of Hong Kong Manufacturing: Past and Present (2009), The Great Transition: Chinese Merchants in Transitional Periods (2013), Series of Modern Asian Cities and Japan: Collection of Materials of Hong Kong as an Urban City (2013-2014), and Networks of Power and Wealth in the Cantonese Pacific: The Yips and the Kwoks, 1864-1949 (in print). He authored many articles in Chinese, English and Japanese.  

 

About the moderator: 
Professor Joseph Ting was the Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of History from 1995 to 2007, during which he was instrumental in the planning and implementation of many museums in the region including the new Hong Kong Museum of History, the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence, the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum, Guangdong Provincial Museum, Shenzhen Museum, and Nanshan Museum.  He is currently an Honorary Professor in the HKU School of Chinese, an Honorary Advisor to the Hong Kong University Museum and Art Gallery, Adjunct Professor of the Education University of Hong Kong, Honorary Senior Research Fellow of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a University Fellow of HKU and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Professor Ting is a respected scholar of the history of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta area and is the author of award-winning books on the cultural heritage of Hong Kong. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of History at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Chairman of the Chinese Modern History Society of Hong Kong, and a Member, inter alia, of the Antiquities Advisory Board, the Lord Wilson Heritage Trust and the Education Bureau of Hong Kong, an Honorary Advisor to the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Hong Kong Museum of History, the Shenzhen Museum and the Guangdong Provincial Museum. For his exceptional achievement in museum management and his lifelong endeavour in history, the HKSAR government bestowed a Bronze Bauhinia Star upon him in 2019.
