This talk will discuss my insights gained from reading Du Fu’s poetry. It will explore the breadth and detail, linguistic rules and stylistic changes of Du’s poetry through aspects such as the five-character sentence structure, sensory logic, objects search, and ideation process. Using examples from selected five-character poems by Du, his sets of poems on traveling to Shu, poems on paintings, friendship poems with Monk Zangong, as well as poems such as “Myriad Fathom Pool,” “Brushwood Gate,” and “To the Shu Monk, His Reverence Lüqiu,” the talk will also touch upon the inspiration and influence of Du’s poetry on my creative writing.
