The Inaugural Chinese Mooting Competition in HKU
Exciting news!
HKU’s Inaugural Chinese Mooting Competition, co-organised by the Faculty of Law and the School of Chinese, was a huge success! Held on April 13, 2024, the event brought together over 44 talented students to showcase their impressive Chinese debating and presentation skills as well as legal knowledge. The competition was privileged with the participation of Mr. Wesley Wong, SC, JP, Secretary of the Law Reform Commission, Mr. Clement Lee, Judge of the District Court, Mr. Matthew Leung, Magistrate and numerous esteemed barristers and solicitors as guest adjudicators. Their impartial judgement and valuable feedback greatly enriched the experience for our contestants.
The prize presentation ceremony was graced with the attendance of Professor Albert Chen, former Head of the Department of Law, and Professor Richard Van Ness Simmons, Programme Director of the Chinese Language Enhancement Programme of the School of Chinese, who delivered inspiring speeches. Subsequently, the ceremony recognized and celebrated outstanding teams, advocates, and written submissions. Each award includes one champion, one runner-up, one second runner-up, and several merit awards.
Congratulations to all the winners! We are incredibly proud of the success of HKU’s very first Chinese Mooting Competition. We hope this event will pave the way for future achievement, inspiring more students to develop an interest in the fields of law and Chinese language.
