On September 27, 2023, the School of Chinese at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) proudly hosted a Mid-Autumn lunch gathering, bringing together over 60 colleagues from across various divisions and programmes. This marked the first such event after four challenging years of combating COVID-19. The gathering served as an excellent opportunity for academic and administrative staff from different backgrounds to connect and exchange ideas on research, teaching, and work.

The event saw representation from the three pillars of the School of Chinese: the School Proper, the Chinese Language Enhancement Programme (CLEP), and the Chinese Language Centre (CLC). Among the attendees were a few special guests, including honorary staff members Professor W.C. So and Dr. K. W. Fung from the Chinese History and Culture Programme, and Mr. Joseph H. K. Poon from the Translation Programme. These esteemed individuals have dedicated decades of their lives to the School of Chinese and continue to teach even after retirement.

During the gathering, the Head of School, Dr. Pei-yin Lin, presented Long Service Awards to three full-time colleagues in recognition of their steadfast dedication to HKU for at least 15 years. The recipients were Dr. Lena Chan from the Chinese Language Centre, Ms. Betty Hung from the Chinese Language Enhancement Programme, and Mr. Gary Hui from the School Office.

To commemorate the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, the event organizers prepared lantern riddles and bamboo lantern souvenirs for the attendees. The School of Chinese would like to extend its gratitude to everyone who participated in this special gathering and wishes everyone a joyous Mid-Autumn Festival.
